LIFE & WORK

Born in 1959 and raised on a houseboat named Liberty, my education started with what would become the principle and purpose of all my studies and work: freedom. As a child, I learned from my father, an erudite teacher, and my grandfathers, both hard-working small business owners, the ethos of free thinking and free agency. I spent decades, though, to fully capture the connection between free thinking and free action. When I was 19 years old, my first act of liberation was to move to France and start my own company: a rental agency for holiday apartments and villas at the Côte d’Azur. I returned to Holland to study Philosophy and Linguistics at Utrecht University, where I graduated in 1985 on Descartes' concept of free will.

 

Armed with my Master of Humanities, and after a valuable experience as a teacher, I came back in to business as a management trainee at AEGON. In marketing and sales I learned the basics of business under the motto of 'respect people, make money and have fun'. I expanded my knowledge of Business Economics and Informatics at the Rotterdam School Of Management (Erasmus University), where I graduated in 1997 with both a Master in Business Administration (MBA) and a Master in Business Informatics (MBI). My thesis, based on research in Silicon Valley, on the business potential of Internet, inspired me to start my international consultancy practice.

 

My work with executives, professionals, and entrepreneurs was essentially about growth, and it has helped foster my own growth. I particularly remember the leadership retreats with the Microsoft EMEA Leadership Teams in a Mont Blanc chalet. These experiences inspired and enabled me to integrate the philosophical, economic, and technological perspectives into my philosophy of personal entrepreneurship. In 2006 I founded Liberaxion to liberate peoples' entrepreneurial potential. Based in WTC Rotterdam, Liberaxion is a boutique-style practice that accompanies people and companies in being high-touch, high-tech and high-impact so that they can thrive in the digital economy.

 

BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

For over 30 years, I have worked with leading companies and business leaders in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, North and South America. I have participated in and organized international management development programs and worked as a visiting faculty for renowned business schools. To make personal change measurable, I have specialized in biofeedback technology. As an investor in people, I am experienced in start-up counseling.
